Frequently asked questions
Everything you might want to know about using PDF Editor.
Is this PDF editor free to use?
Yes. All tools are free with no signup required and no forced watermarks. There are no hidden limits for everyday document sizes.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool processes your file entirely in your browser using open-source PDF engines. Your documents never leave your device, which makes the platform safe for confidential files.
Do I need to create an account?
No account is needed to use the tools. Account features, if enabled in future, are optional and only used for conveniences like saving your work.
Which devices and browsers are supported?
Any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, or iOS. There is nothing to install. Tools work on desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
Is there a file size limit?
Because processing is local, the practical limit depends on your device's available memory rather than a server quota. Most everyday documents process instantly. Very large files (hundreds of MB) may be slower on older devices.
Can I merge or split scanned PDFs?
Yes. Scanned PDFs are handled just like any other PDF for merging, splitting, rotating, and reordering. To make a scan's text searchable you would need OCR, which is a separate process not currently included in these tools.
Will editing reduce my PDF's quality?
Operations like merge, split, extract, reorder, and rotate copy pages without re-compressing them, so quality is preserved exactly. Compression optimises the file's internal structure while keeping text fully sharp and selectable.
What happens if I forget a password I set?
Passwords cannot be recovered because we never store them — everything happens in your browser. Always record the password in a password manager the moment you set it.
How do I reduce a PDF's file size for email?
Use the Compress PDF tool. It restructures the file's internal data to eliminate redundancy. For most born-digital PDFs this produces a noticeably smaller file. For scanned documents with large embedded images, compression combined with lower image DPI gives the biggest reduction.
Can I merge more than two PDFs at once?
Yes. The Merge PDF tool accepts any number of files. Add them all at once or one by one, drag the cards into the order you want, then click Merge. The output is a single PDF containing all pages in your chosen sequence.
What is the difference between splitting and extracting pages?
Split breaks one document into multiple output files — for example, every page as its own file, or a document split at defined points. Extract pulls a specific set of pages into a single new document. Use Split when you want many files; use Extract when you want one focused file.
Can I add a signature to a PDF?
Yes, using the Sign PDF tool. Draw your signature with a mouse, stylus, or finger, position it on the page, and download the signed document. For regulated or legally certified e-signatures, a qualified trust service provider is recommended.
Can I use the tools offline or without an internet connection?
You need an internet connection to initially load the web app. Once the page has loaded, many tools can complete their work even if the connection drops, because processing happens locally. Reloading the page requires reconnecting.
What happens to my files when I close the tab?
Nothing is retained. Because files are processed only in your browser's memory and never sent to a server, closing the tab discards everything automatically. There is no cloud copy, no history, and no trace left on our end.
Can I rotate just one page instead of the entire document?
Yes. The Rotate PDF tool lets you select individual pages or a specific range to rotate, leaving the rest untouched. This is useful for fixing a single sideways scan in an otherwise correctly oriented document.
Is watermarking reversible?
No, not from the watermarked file alone. The watermark is drawn into the page content and cannot be cleanly removed once applied. Always keep a copy of the original unwatermarked document before applying a watermark.
